Karen Nelson grew up in northern Virginia. She did her
undergraduate work at the College of William and Mary, where she double
majored in Government and Religion.
Karen received her M.Div. from Princeton Theological
Seminary. While in seminary, her training included a two-year internship
as the sole chaplain at a drug, alcohol and psychiatric rehab.
After graduation, Karen completed four units of
Clinical Pastoral Education and became board certified with the
Association of Professional Chaplains. Before coming to MPC, Karen served
as chaplain at a residential facility for emotionally and behaviorally
troubled youth (1997-2003).
At MPC, Karen's runs the Sunday School program
and teaches the youth class. She also runs the Vacation Bible School and
the Christmas pageant. She has recently started developing a young adults
group.
Karen is married to Michael Poteet and they have a son
Carl and daughter Hannah Grace.
