Marple Presbyterian Church is having their first September
Flea Market on Saturday the 13th. We encourage all to bring their own tables to
display their “wares” for sale. All checks are to be received and addressed to
MPC, no later than Wednesday the 10th. Set up will be after 7:30 am on the
day of the event. We encourage all to participate in this fund raiser for the
church. Needed are baked goods to sell that are wrapped and easy to sell
such as a group of cookies in a bag. Remember no cake plates will be returned,
once sold. This is an excellent opportunity to balance the budget deficit.
Needed are volunteers to assist. Children First will be having an open
house. Justine will be selling food for those who come hungry. Platoon
Partners will be giving cold drinks in exchange for a donation. A signup sheet
will be available for any in the MPC community interested in the November
1st Alzheimer’s Association Walk. Contact Penny at the church office to
reserve your vendor space. Sign up in the Narthex to donate baked items
and assist with the day. Fellowship and the Finance Committee thanks you!
Come join in the fun, companionship and produce
meals for the elderly homebound at the “Aid for Friends” Cook-In. Last year was
a most successful event! We have been having these events now for 13 years and
each time the helpers get more comfortable in running our production line. Last
year, we prepared a record 160 meals for the elderly homebound. We not only
produced a record number of meals but also did it in record time — one hour and
45 minutes. Can you believe that?
Let's have an even more successful Cook-In this year
with your help and your donations!
Donate pasta, sauce, vegetable, cookies or other foods in the
Narthex of the Church.
And then come on Saturday morning to make it all
happen!

Ladies Night Out - Holiday Shopping at MPC
Thursday, October 23 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM
It’s the end of summer and we don’t really want to think ahead
to the holidays already BUT… we are planning something new to raise money for
MPC and have fun while starting out
our holiday shopping. The Fellowship
Committee is putting together a Ladies Night Out on Thursday, October 23 from
6:00 to 10:00 PM. We have signed up
about 15 vendors already who will set up tables and be prepared to sell or take
orders for their products. So far we
have Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Discover Toys, Silpada Jewelry, Jewelry
by Anne Canny, Something Special Personalized Gifts, Southern Living, Dove
Chocolate at Home, Barefoot Books for children, I Am Baby Crazy baby gifts,
Jockey casual clothing and Avon to name a few.
And we will have raffles on gifts they will provide.
So ladies, come and enjoy an evening out and bring your friends.
Tickets are only $3. We’d
love to have a huge turnout. It’s a
fun evening for everyone and a great way to raise money for our church.
Delaware County SPCA Foster Care Program
In keeping with our goal to adopt as many healthy animals
from the shelter as we can, the Delaware County
SPCA has developed the
Foster Care Program. The purpose of
the foster program is to increase the chances that animals entering our shelter
will be adopted into permanent homes.
We have so many wonderful animals
walking through our doors every day. Many of the animals brought to our shelter
are not suitable for adoption when they first arrive, and some simply need the
blessing of more time until the right
home comes along for them. Animals that are too young for adoption or are sick
cannot remain in the shelter environment. Unfortunately, some animals that
are brought in to our shelters are too sick, too young, not trained or not
socialized enough to be adopted out right away. These animals have the potential
to be excellent pets, however sometimes they just need
more time and a loving support system before adoption is possible.
Foster volunteers take these animals into their home and provide a safe
environment for them to mature, become more socialized and better trained, or
heal from a wound or illness.
By becoming a part of our foster care
program you could be the difference between life and death for animals.
This can be an intense short-term
commitment, but also one of the most rewarding things you will ever do.
If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, please ask a staff member
or a volunteer for an application or
download the foster application at delcospca.org and e-mail to our
Foster
Coordinator, Dayna, at
foster@delcospca.org.
If you have questions regarding the foster
program, please ask a staff member or volunteer, contact us at 610-566-1370 x 0
or email our foster coordinator Dayna.
Session News
At the last Session meeting held August 13th,
Rev. Nelson presented a new program called New Mover Mailers which she
will use monthly to contact new residents in our area.
The Fellowship committee discussed the upcoming Flea Market and its
purpose not only to raise money for the church, but to develop community
involvement. Ladies Night Out on
Oct. 23rd will be a new venture in fund raising as well.
The Finance committee reported that our revenue is running ahead of
expenses due to the sale of the Master’s property and that we are ahead of where
we usually are at this point in the year.
According to Bill Armstrong, our original church charter document has
been returned to its original condition and should be ready for display in
September.
The Management committee presented a motion to have the front
of the church painted with funds from the building fund.
Motion passed. Session also
requested that funds be secured for the flooring in the CE building before a
selection is made. Session asked
the Management and Stewardship committees to work together to form a fund
raising committee for the CE Auditorium renovations.
John Strain proposed an idea to help Rev. Nelson when unexpected events
occur by creating an “On Call” list of Elders.
All Elders would participate on a rotational basis and be available to
help out when needed. The next
meeting of Session will be Wednesday, September 24th at 7:30 with a special
Alzheimer’s presentation at 6:30 PM.
