Greetings from the Deacons
The Deacons of Marple Presbyterian Church are
“the eyes and hands of the church”, providing services and visitation to our
members and the community. For those of you unfamiliar with our work (and for
those of you who are) this feature in the Monthly Focus will enlighten and
inform you of our activities.
The Deacons hosted the communion luncheon February 3rd
and we all enjoyed hot roast pork and fellowship after worship. We also provided
a luncheon for family and friends after the funeral service of a dear member of
the congregation. Deacons have been called to provide meals to those at home in
need of a hot meal and we would be grateful for anyone who would be interested
in helping in that way.
Easter reminds us of the renewal of God’s love and the
renewal of the earth with spring… and as spring brings flowers so do the
Deacons. Weekly we deliver the altar flowers to those who are ill, confined to
home, suffered a loss or for happy occasions, too, such as births and
anniversaries. We gave lovely spring flowers as a token of our remembrance at
Easter to members who have been ill or had a loss this past year.
These are just a few of the activities with which we
have been busy. Look for more information in the next month’s Focus. We are
always in need of extra loving hands to help do God’s work in this congregation.
So if anything strikes a chord that says, “Hey, I would like to help do that!”
contact any Deacon or the church office. It is very rewarding and you will
receive as much as you give.
Deacons
The board of deacons consists of 12 elected members of the
church who are ordained and assist the pastors in their ministry. They provide a
vital link between home bound members and the church through visitations.
Additionally, they provide spiritual support to all members of the congregation,
particularly during times of illness or emotional hardship.
If you would like assistance from the
Deacons, please contact Joyce Holmwood through the church office: 610-356-1096.
